Photo reportage: Intimate weddings and Elopements

Small, intimate weddings in the South of Spain and Gibraltar are becoming increasingly popular. Lots of couples find beautifully tranquil and special locations in this part of the world, ideal for celebrating their wedding day alongside their most loved ones, or in some cases, alone, just the two of them together.

These intimate wedding celebrations normally take place at a traditional country estate in Malaga, Marbella or Tarifa, surrounded by fields and mountains. Sometimes they’ll be on a remote, hidden beach, or in the case of the most daring copulas, in some middle-of-nowhere forest, where the only witness is the surrounding nature.

This type of wedding normally involves just the couple’s closest family and friends as guests, around 20 to 50 people from their home country, who also stay for a couple of days alter the wedding, to enjoy the weather, beaches and wonderful places to visit.

They are usually extremely beautiful, special and moving weddings, in which every last detail has been considered, and where you find that everyone intensely experiences each moment of the day. For me as a wedding photographer, these weddings are the best, because they allow me to feel and capture the emotions of the couple, their parents, siblings, grandparents and closest friends, doing so in a spontaneous and relaxed manner.

When it comes to elopements, the couple get married alone, without guests. These are also really special weddings to photograph. Often, the couple ask for my advice in helping to create the kind of magical atmosphere they are looking for. This is something I really love, as it is such a joy to see the couple enjoy a uniquely special day that they will remember for the rest of their lives.

As a general rule, the couples that opt for this kind of wedding are modern and adventurous, searching for something out of the ordinary. The weddings are incredibly romantic, with little in the way of decoration, and they usually take place at a beach, on a mountain, in a garden, or at some other magical place. I love how not everything is controlled or fixed, as this lends itself to many more improvised moments, which makes these weddings complete different and truly marvellous.

Here are the links to the intimate weddings I’ve shot. I hope you like them. If you’d like to see the other styles of work that I do, don’t hesitate to have a look at my portfolio.
